IT ALL STARTED WITH A BOOK…
…and a row of apple trees. Newly home from university, Adam Tildsley discovered that his dad, Michael, had replaced some old rose bushes in the family garden with apple trees.
Looking for something to fill his time (not a problem these days with both a growing family and a growing business!) he picked up his mum’s battered copy of Home Made Wines, Syrups and Cordials, published by the National Federation of Women’s Institutes in 1954, and costing a handsome ‘Four Shillings and Sixpence’.
He began making cordials and apple juice, which he sold from an honesty box outside the house. From that small seed, Tree Top Press has grown into a flourishing cider press and farm shop on the southernmost boundary of the North York Moors National Park, producing real cider using organic methods and now including a no-dig market garden.
As parents to three boys, all aged under four, a healthy and sustainable lifestyle is important to Adam and Ruby Tildsley. Using only organic methods, the couple grow apples, pears and soft fruits in their orchards for their acclaimed range of ciders and cordials, and vegetables from their no-dig market garden for their farm shop and veg box delivery scheme.
Pure, unfiltered and unpasteurised, Tree Top Press cider is made from 100% apple juice, picked and pressed by hand on the North York Moors.
Heritage Yorkshire varieties including Yorkshire Beauty, Flower of the Town and Green Balsam, and cider apples such as Yarlington Mill, Dabinett and Tom Putt, are traditionally pressed, slowly fermented then matured to produce clean, intensely appley ciders ranging from dry to medium-sweet.
A convenient way for you and your family to get beautiful, healthy, organically produced vegetables and fruit at affordable prices, veg boxes mean less plastic, fewer food miles and fresher produce.
